Thoroughly enjoyed the site.
Gebel el-Silsila (جبل السلسلة chain of rocks), or Gebel Silsileh, is a town located 65 kilometers north of Aswan and 152 south of Luxor, where the banks of the Nile River narrow, in the form of cliffs. It was known in Ancient Egypt as Jeny, which means place of rowing. On the west bank there are several temples, carved into the rock, such as the Speos of Horemheb (consecrated to Amun, Mut, Jonsu, Sobek, Tueris, Toth and Horemheb himself), stelae of Sethy I, Ramses II and Merenptah, and 28 chapels from the 18th dynasty that served as a cenotaph for high dignitaries: the architect and advisor Senenmut, the High Priest of Amun Hapuseneb, the chatty User, the advisors Min and Sennefer, etc. Hatshepsut Many of the blocks used by Akhenaten at Amarna were extracted from this site, and later reused in buildings at Thebes.Several of these monuments bear inscriptions of Hatshepsut, Amenhotep II, Ramses II, Merenptah, and Ramses III. On the eastern bank there are some unfinished sculptures, and some monuments, such as the kiosk of Amenhotep III, but there are no published studies. We only saw it from the cruise, since we did not stop. A shame
