We were taken here on a tour and were very pleasantly surprised! We were given a demonstration and the shop owners were gracious and let us browse without pressure. The atmosphere was very relaxed. We picked out some hand crafted alabaster items and negotiated the price and left happy! They have a wonderful selection. I definitely recommend this shop and would return.

There are several alabaster shops in this area, but Imhotep had the most authentic looking carvings for the best price. Also, the owner seemed more honest and willing to negotiate. This was our favorite shop — hands down. Got great items for a good price.

Review №3

Very expensive. They do a nice song and dance for you when you arrive. They love negotiations btw. Feel free to do that just don’t embarrass them. Spent about an hour going back and forth for 3 very heavy pieces and was the last to get on our tour bus. 10 points for wrapping everything very well.

Probably a fraud. The so called craftsmen are there for the show and dont work for real. The handmade souvenirs are ridiculously expensive and you have to negotiate a lot in order to get an affordable price. Better to avoid this one.

A small workshop where you can see alabaster objects being made in real time. The workers are very friendly and speak some English. After the demonstration, youre strongly encouraged to buy something, but beware, the prices for a single vase can go up to 1500 EGP.

Amazing shop with no shortage of quality items. They have a good variety of small cheaper items like you find everywhere in Egypt at the Bazaars, and beautiful handcrafted pieces of art that you will not find anywhere but Luxor. Worth the stop to just browse, but you will leave with something. 😉

Looks more like a farce, not sure, that sculptures are really being handmade there. If you want to buy something, Bargain, you will pay 4 times less.

The alabaster store does a quick humorous demonstration of how they carve the alabaster. The rest of the visit is a store full of carved objects for purchase. It is worth a short stop but could easily be passed up too.

This is my second time coming to visit this wonderful place in Egypt. I have gotten many souvenirs that I cherish from the Alabaster factory. They treat you like family, actually better than family. I learned about carving stone and about the different types of stones available in the store. I had a wonderful welcome back after my first trip to Egypt went so well. I will always make sure to come visit my family here and love to purchase their amazing pieces. Great high quality pieces. Cherished keepsakes.

Amazing place. Beautiful handcrafted porções. They will explain all the process, isnt easy and take a lot of time until the piece os finally complete. They have some many pieces, you cant find it in other places, this is genuine alabaster. There are pieces for all wallets, and even personalized. Well worth the trip, and well spend money. We brought an Anúbis statue 😊

The place is interesting but its the usual tourist trap. Whatever you are told the price is, drop that to 1/3 and start negotiating from there.

Imhotep Alabaster Luxor is a lovely souvenir shop, disguised as a workshop with a mixture of very beautiful handmade Egyptian pottery, vases, placed between, let us say more questionable items.Upon arrival professional-performers would give you a small funny introduction about the traditional process of making some of the items sold in the shop. After entering the shop, we were served with falafel and very good coffee. They also have a very clean toilet, which are rarely found in Egypt.Mohamed knows how to give his customers a very pleasant experience, but he also uses every trick in the box to make a good profit. Such as placing items behind glass to make them look more expensive, giving you one item for free but paying more in total. Also, none of the items has stickers with prices on it, so you are sure the price he offers “specially for you” depends on how rich you look and where you come from. These tricks work very well for emotional buyers, such as my wife. Luckily, I advised her not to take her credit-card with her during our day tours in Egypt.Because we live in Switzerland, Mohamed gave us a “very special price”, so I was forced to play the game along and bargain very hard. This is a pity, because we would have paid more if he started out with more reasonable prices and have bought more for a higher price if he would upper his game to more modern standards.Nevertheless, we are very happy with the alabaster souvenirs. Potential 5/5, now 4/5.

I was looking for an authentic gift from Luxor and this store did not disappoint. Artist at this shop/museum are working the Alabaster stone as the Egyptians done it 3,000+ years back. The store has some very nice handcrafted artifact, which are a bit pricey but I think (with some bargaining) worth it as well as some typical machine made stuff for those looking to get a cheaper but still nice gift to bring home. The story of the people in this area is incredible and everybody is very kind. Obviously they are looking for a tourist huzzle as well but if you take the time to have a conversation and tea you will find an amazing story behind it all. Please visit and support if you are looking for a nice keepsake for home that is not made in China.

They have really high quality, real hand-made pieces here, and the people are so friendly! I would buy everything if I could afford it! 😊The works sold here are as close as it gets to owning actual ancient Egyptian pieces, with none of the legal issues that come with genuine antiquities. 😉My congratulations to the artists working at the shop, and my thanks to Mohamed for a wonderful shopping experience!

Taken by my tour operator. I did purchase for 55€. Its very expensive place but I really hope its of good quality . Nice hibiscus tea. May be a tourist trap and these tour agents are getting commission. Anything possible in Egypt. But its a peaceful place. The old man who helped us check the souvenirs was good. And asked us a tip we wer happy to give him 1€. Only thing I didnt like about this shop is that the owner and his friend or someone wer smoking inside the shop. This really spoil the air and peace. It would be great if he does this outside.

What an amazing place. Exceptionally friendly people and their art work is exquisite. Easy to bargain with. We came away with what we thought were very fair prices for our purchases and they were prepared perfectly to carry home. I would love to be able to go back sometime. Make sure you have your video camera rolling when you first get there... You dont want to miss the little vaudeville show they do when you enter.

The family who runs this business sells high-quality genuine handmade alabaster and basalt stone gifts and goods. They are honest and not pushy like the other merchants in Egypt. Mohamed showed us their artisans at work and how their items are made. They also showed us how to differentiate between the real stuff (theirs) and the fake/made-in-China items often sold at tourist destinations in the area which are cheaper but not unique and special in any way. In true Egyptian fashion, they offered each of us traditional mint tea.As for the store, each item is more special than the next. I was impressed by the details and workmanship of all the items. I only wish I afford to buy more to take with me. I picked a few items that stood out to me: a beautiful turquoise alabaster scarab pendant framed in 2 karat gold, an alabaster cat, and a hollow teal alabaster pyramid which they carved my friend’s name into, written in Arabic. Each item holds meaning to the shop owners and you can tell they take pride in their work.Overall, I felt satisfied with my experience and am excited to give my friends back at home some unique handmade treasures. If you are in the West Bank of Luxor, I highly recommend a trip to their shop! I will cherish these items for a lifetime!

Nice quality goods which make lovely souvenirs. They are fairly pricey but be prepared to haggle as much as you can--the people there are friendly and willing to go down in price quite a lot. Its a nice experience if youre in the market for souvenirs anyway, and their quality is probably better than a lot of other souvenir shops around the area.

When shopping in Luxor I like to go to places on the West Bank to buy my gifts I stumbled across this Amazing Alabaster Factory Called Imhotep alabaster factory. The staff there were friendly, gave me space whilst choosing my gifts and were patient with me and my disabled son offering us Tea and a place to sit. I choose something out of their very old section. I could of spent all day there so many pretty things to choose from in the end I choose a beautiful set of jars and a candle holder. My son loves crocodiles the owner wanted to give him a gift for free of a crocodile. I would like to highly recommend this place. If your lucky enough to meet the owner Mohamed say Hi to him from Me and my son just say Crocodile and I’m sure he will Remember us....

Imhotep is a store which I pass by, by any visit I have in Luxor. The owner is a wonderfull guy with a very talented team.2 years ago when I visited Luxor first, I got very bad experiences by another shop. I know Imhotep by the web, so I decided a visit there last year by my second visit to Luxor. What I found there is breathtaking. Amazing quality of ancient artwork replicas, polite service, very human and everyone can find the things they need. I have to add I never been to souvenir and artwork shop in Egypt where I found such diversity, range of handmade artworks and such friendly attitude. Normally ( in Luxor especially ) they push you to buy things and you are often fooled with things. In Imhotep it is not the case. What you see, what you are said - is what you get.....Since I know them I bought articles at the moment and I ordered by delievery, one was actually a design I wished for.I can bravely suggest this place, if you visit Luxor - go to Imhotep. Experience :)Photos below: my first visitand the second : private orders ( the white is an exact copy of an original piece of Amarna art - perfectly nailed)
