Al-Sayeda Zainab Mosque is a historic mosque in Cairo, Egypt, and constitutes one of the most significant and biggest mosques in the history of Egypt. The name is an honor to Sayyida Zaynab bint Ali, one of the daughters of Ali, fourth Caliph of Islam, and his first wife Fatimah, the daughter of the Islamic prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam.
It is a holy shrine of course and everything but the place is not exactly clean or visitor friendly
I dont understand the concept of leaving people crowded outside. The 🕌 should be open for everyone. Dont pretend to be organized
Veryy nice place to prau for tourists
This mosque is highly regarded for its historical value, containing the said tomb of the sister of Hasan & Husein RA, being the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Many people usually visit this tomb, especially during the mawlid of Sayeda Zeinab, the tomb place would be crowded with people. This mosque is huge, with amazing architecture, located in the middle of the markets & slum areas of Sayeda Zeinab, making it more outstanding than other buildings nearby. The prayer hall is huge, comfortable & cool although being not air-conditioned. The toilets & ablution areas are well-maintained by the workers. The entrance of the mosque is crawling with hawkers & beggars. The shoe racks guy might be a bit persistent, but dont worry you can just bring your shoes with you inside. Parking spots are not plenty here. The mosque is more interesting during Ramadan, with iftars being served everyday & teas provided in between the taraweeh prayers.
Dont trust any one there except policemen
Easy access to car park nearby, conducive environment for prayer and worship.
It is an incredible place, they light was very beautiful over the stone and it gave a warm color. Around there are many stands of people selling objects and food, kind of crazy ambiance but interesting to visit.
Very historical amazing place ,but very very crowded surrounding areas and needs more and more care
Goid mosqueLadies are not allowed to visit since Coronavirus
Al-Sayeda Zeinab’s neo-Mameluke Mosque, which dates back to the Fatimid period and houses her shrine, stands in majesty in a populous square in Cairo that also carries her name and receives hundreds of passionate worshippers every day.Away from the hassle and bustle of the populous area around it, the interior of the mosque exudes a sense of historical and spiritual grandeur. Those who visit her shrine are not just the afflicted seeking her blessing, or members of Sufi orders who consider visiting the shrines of saints and mausoleums an important part of self-purification, but also those who feel a passion to remain in the company of the “president of the assembly”, as many Sufis like to dub Al-Sayeda Zeinab. The “assembly” here means the prophet’s descendants and saints who have a special status in the hearts of Muslims and whose shrines are believed to have particular blessings for those seeking an answer to their prayers.Al-Sayeda Zeinab, however, is more popularly known as the mother of those who suffer from many calamities. She bravely participated in the Battle of Karbala in 61 AH (680 CE), one of the dramatic battles that ultimately divided the Muslim world into Sunni and Shia sects, and where she saw her brother Al-Hussein beheaded and she was taken a prisoner of war. There has long been controversy, however, as to who is actually buried in the shrines of the ahl al-beit in Cairo. Al-Sayeda Zeinab, like Al-Hussein, has another mausoleum in Damascus, but many Egyptian historians insist she was nevertheless buried in Egypt and that the head of her brother Al-Hussein was also buried in another mausoleum in a nearby district that also carries his name.According to many Egyptian accounts, Al-Sayeda Zeinab came to Egypt after having been taken as a prisoner of war to the court of the caliph of Damascus, Yazid Ibn Muawiya, after the Battle of Karbala.“The first information about the mausoleum dates back to the 16th century, and some say it is based on the dreams and visions of Sufis to whom Zeinab appeared, revealing her burial place,” historian Saleh Lamei said in an article published in Al-Ahram Weekly.
One of the famus mosques in Egypt, and one of the historical places in Cairo, internally its characterized by its Islamic and Arabic designs, there is a huge interest among the majority of the Egyptians by Al Sayeda Zainab birthday, with a great festival every year.
Offered magrib prayers at this iconic masjid. Felt like I was living in 12th century.
I go there every Friday for Friday congregational prayer. It is a very spiritual mosque with Sayidat Zaynabs mausoleum at the back of the mosque. She, May Allah be pleased with her, is the granddaughter of the Prophet, peace be upon him, that migrated to Egypt a couple years before she returned to Allah. Most of the Sufi orders meet there on Fridays.
Here is a place to pray and comfort your soul.
Prayed jummah prayer here and it was amazing the mozzin was a cool person and his tilawat was mesmerising, i felt the surahs entering the heart, its a grand masjid and was full some beggars outside , people distribute food after the salat ul jummah , very peaceful environment.
