Almaza Airport or Almaza Air Base (ICAO: HEAZ) is the first Egyptian airport to be built to be under its full control. The airport is located northeast of Cairo, and close to it is Cairo International Airport. Work on its construction began in 1930 and opened on June 2, 1932. The airport has witnessed many developments since its opening, and today it is an air base belonging to the Egyptian Air Force.Almaza Air Base Egypt was under British occupation and no planes except British Airways planes were allowed to use the only airport in Cairo, which is Heliopolis Airport, which was used by British Air Force planes during and after the First World War.The Egyptian government decided to establish an Egyptian airport for its planes, and the actual implementation began at Almaza Airport in 1930, and on May 23, 1932, five Egyptian Tiger Moths out of ten took off from Hatfield Air Base, north of London. The first three Egyptian pilots, Abdel Moneim Megaweti, Ahmed Abdel Razek, Fouad Abdel Hamid Hajjaj),[1] and two Britons flew planes and landed at Almaza Air Base on June 2, amid a great popular celebration in the presence of King Fouad, and thus the airport was opened.[2] Thus, Almaza Airport became the first Egyptian airport, and the second airport that was established is Dekheila Airport in Alexandria.
