This castle is located at the end of the island of Pharos in the far west of Alexandria, and was built in the place of the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria, which was destroyed in 702 e following the devastating earthquake that took place during the reign of Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun. Sultan Al-Ashraf Abu Al-Nasr Qaitbay began building this fortress in 882 AH Of its construction in 884 AH.Source
