Latin Cemeteries of the Holy LandThe tombs are divided into two parts. The first is the general cemetery for the sons of the Greek community who died in the wars, and the second includes a cemetery for senior Greek families, such as the family cemetery of the well-known Greek poet Cavafy. The day of April 29 represents a double memory related to the contemporary Greek-Egyptian poet Constantine Cavafy or Kafafi (April 29, 1863 - April 29, 1933), as this day marks the anniversary of his birth and death as well. He is one of the sons of the aristocracy in Alexandria, and is considered one of the most important contemporary Greek poets known for his unconventional style.Cavafy began writing poetry at the age of nineteen and published the first printed collection of his poems at the age of forty in 1904, and it consisted of 14 poems, and in 1910 he published his second collection, which consisted of the first 14 poems, in addition to twelve poems. New life magazine published his poems from 1908 to 1918, and with the passage of time his fame exceeded Alexandria and reached global horizons.Cavafy died in 1923 from throat cancer, lost the ability to speak, and spent his last days in the Greek Hospital in Alexandria. Despite the lack of fame of Constantine as a poet who lived in Egypt, his memory remained related to the museum that was prepared for his possession and the book that was published that includes all his poetic works.Abu Qir Street - Alexandria
