Great new museum, about 3 years old. Nice collection of artefacts from all periods of Egypt history, with concentration on Abydos.

Three years old museum, with a small but well outlaid collection, focussing on Abydos, among others. Not overwhelming but a good introduction. Only problem for foreign travelers is that the local police follows you whereever you go. Not because it is dangerous there (I was allowed to walk from here to the railway station with a policecar slowely following me) but simply because they dont want you to escape them somehow, for some reason, probably fear of accountability if something might happen.

A statue of the goddess Sekhmet was placed to the right and left of the interior of the museum’s antiquities exhibition halls as a kind of protection and strength for the place where Sekhmet was {the ancient Egyptian goddess of war and strength}.second floorIt has a changing exhibition hall, and it is accessed through the ascending stairs to the right of the entrance. This hall has been designated to hold four archaeological exhibitions throughout the year through the antiques stored in the museum store, or to hold exhibitions that keep pace with events that may occur on the local and international arena.
