Definitely a must see. Its so interesting to be able to see history first hand and up close. So many wonderful things to see with a story to each. You can spend an entire day and not see everything. It is best to have a local guide to help walk you through and explain what everything is. You get the sense of how people lived back in those days and how beautiful and detailed designs were as well. Best place to see if you want to experience history.

What a spectacular place. Our visit was not planned but we were so delighted. This is different from the Civilization Museum and is a MUST see. I would highly recommend hiring a certified guide after you enter because there is nothing really written on anything there. We ended up using google Lens to identify the statues, most of them were surprisingly identifiable. Granted, the museum could be better taken care of and dusted, but for some reason the chaos became part of the charm. Plan to spend two hours at least in here.

The largest museum in Egypt, a must visit! It hosts many antiques from excavations of the pyramids and the Valley of Kings. Dont miss the treasure of Tutankhamun is located on the second floor. If you are into mummies, head to Museum of Civilization after this. Highly recommend a tour guide that can explain the history behind the antiques.

I highly recommend you check out this Museum. It looks like a thrift store of poorly curated antiquities. You will either want to do a ton of study before entering or hire a guide because almost nothing is labeled and the things that are labeled have only a few word explanations. Like, I understand that I am looking at a rock, but whos rock is it, how old is it, and why should I care? None of this meaning is built into the museum even though they have a broader and more impressive collection than The Nation Museum of Egyptian Civ (besides the mummies). Highly recommend you read Waxmans Loot, which will compound your experience at this museum by providing you with the story of the museum, its curators, and the political dynamics around museums. Read Loot! This review sounds harsh, but its only because the amount of missed potential is baffling. With little to no help or quality displays, this is still the vastest and most important museum in Cairo.

This place is huge and you will have to pay to take pictures of the mummies. Oh and from what I recall there is a higher fee to take pictures of kings versus nobles etc. Apparently no one can take a picture of King Tut’s collection except for Will Smith (whatever that means) and some people will be taking pictures with their phone regardless of whether they paid for it or not. My fave was Thuya and Yuya (not attaching their faces).

Has 60,000 artifacts but a lot will be moved to the Grand Egyptian museum when it opens later this year. The mummies of Yuya & Thuya, the grandparents of Tutankhamen, are the main attraction. There are also the relics and sarcophagus of Tutankhamen discovered by Howard Carter, but no photos are allowed in this section.Lots of cartouches (royal name symbols), hieroglyphics (writing symbols), sarcophagus (burial coffins). Its quite difficult to get your head around the ancient Egyptian timeline, perhaps a simplified timeline visualising the old, middle, and new kingdoms and their rulers would make things easier to understand.

The truth is this museum has SO MUCH more potential. I understand they are building a new museum, but it’s sad to see the way they care for the exhibits and the overall look and feel of the items on display / general atmosphere.Very little explanation or information, and poor demonstration.Worth a visit - but with what this country has to offer they should really take advantage and unlock their potential.

Such a spectacular place with rich historical artifacts. It was an amazing experience visiting the Egyptian Museum. The artifacts are thousands years old and it shows a greater meaning of Innovation and development of our culture and society!I just didnt like one thing. Although I visited the museum during the pandemic, I saw barley anyone with following the rules and regulations. Only 2-3% people were wearing face masks and maintained social distancing. It was a bit disappointing.

Excellent museum housed in a beautiful building. As far as ancient history goes, Egypt is second to none. But the problem here is that there is very little information displayed regarding the exhibits. Is this so the guides can make money? Not sure. Tutankhamuns exhibits on the 1st floor were the most exciting although photos not allowed in that section :(

I cant tell how much Im deeply moved in learning the history of humanity. Theres too much information to process but Im enjoying it so much. Theres really a difference when you see the artifacts in real life vs when you watch it in NatGeo. This place is really HUGE! You can spend more than a day as long as you have enough time visiting other places in Egypt. The mask of Tutankhamun is the main highlight of this place! They say its pure gold around 10kg and taking photo/video of it is not allowed... But as long as youre not caught, that photo is yours to keep🤭Other artifacts found in King Tuts tomb are also housed here, making the secondary highlight of the tour.

A museum packed with a lot to see, and I don’t mean that in a positive way. It looks like a warehouse housing these treasures. Unfortunately, so many artifacts were in bad condition, dusty, and even unlabelled. I would say about 50% of the things there are unlabelled. The way it’s structured, you can’t help but get lost and disoriented. You’re greeted with a large hall housing giant statues and artifacts and then it branches out into left, right, and upstairs. The little hallways that lead from one to the other seem endless. My advice is: only visit if you’re an expert in Egyptology or if you’re planning on having a tour guide from the museum (I don’t recommend the latter). I saw some foreigners walking around with a guide and they spent so much time on one single artifact with a museum quite literally packed with hundreds of thousands of artifacts. Unless you trust that your guide will show you as many things as possible, then go for it. Otherwise, this truly was a painful experience because a museum this disorganised housing a huge amount of rich history doesn’t do it justice.I would encourage you to visit nevertheless because you get to be present within such an enriching history, art, and civilisation. Just make sure you prepare to be underwhelmed by how it’s all being honoured.
