A synagogue was adopted in the second half of the nineteenth century. It was founded by the Mansi family, one of the rich Sephardic Jews who lived in Alexandria and was the head of the citys Jewish community. It is currently closed because there are no Jewish worshipers and the building is in poor condition. It was included among the Jewish monuments.
The Temple of Manashe, founded by Baron Jacob de Menashe in 1860 in Mansheya Square, is a simple two-storey building. In Alexandria, there were 20 synagogues belonging to different groups and societies, including Moroccan Jews, Turks, Italians, Spaniards and Arabized Jews. The rabbinic, chief and his deputy, and the sect took the Eliyahu Hanabi Synagogue on Prophet Daniel Street as its headquarters, noting that the Manashe Temple is one of the oldest synagogues in Alexandria.
