A grand Mosque. The buildings are really pretty, but too many people, and lots of restrictions. Theres fixed route you are allowed to go, and you can only take photos on designated areas. The guards are monitoring every tourists activity. Ladies need to totally cover the hair. The guard will ask you to correct your hair piece if some of the hair exposed. Better check the dress code before you go.

This has a very interesting story. The Mosque was built in Luxor right over the Temple, which was deep underground at the time. After certain antiquities were found on the site (you can see these at the Luxor Museum) the entire temple was shored up, but they opted to leave the Mosque where it sat. The Mosque is not suspended 20 feet above the floor of the temple and you can see the lines ground used to be. I dont think I would have kept the Mosque where it is, but it is an interesting sight.

A part of the luxor temple.Fun fact, it is technically an ancient Egyptian tomb, topped by an old church then both topped by a mosque built by a man from Morocco who settled there.

A masjid that is built on a hill. Its one of the most peaceful places I ever visited. Theres a plaza outside. A very beautiful plaza where you can see hundreds of pigeons which one can feed. The seen is wonderful similar to that in UK and Makkah at Saudi Arabia. However, I couldnt go inside as women are not permitted to as its COVID time. Unfair.

A small, old mosque in the middle of the Luxor temples complex.Comfortable enough for prayers, the mosque is only accessible from the outside of the temple complex, where it faces a wide, tiled square where people, hawkers & beggars usually hang out.The prayer hall is not that big & cool enough although not air-conditioned. The toilets are outside, downstairs & might use a bit more cleaning. The ablution areas are outside of the mosque near the entrance. There’s also a tomb inside the mosque, being said as the tomb of a Sufi Islamic saint in the Luxor area.

One of the most memorable sights I have EVER seen. The mosque is practically inside the temple and has ( or seemed at least ) genuine ancient Egyptian relief in some of the walls. Will leave anyone interested in history and empires breathless for how past and present come together uniquely in this place.

From the tourists perspective, its interesting place to visit. The mosque had been built inside the ruins of the Luxor Temple. Worth to visit...however, be aware of kind believers who offer a free tour inside and then at the end they want 5$ per person for orphans + tip for shoes storage + tip for imam. Its ok to pay for tour with a guide, but make it clear on the beginning.

What an excellent example of religious tolerance. The mosque and mausoleum was built over the ancient temple and strangely the muslims never demolished the temple construct their structures. Truly a rare thing to visit. We can all the way from India to pay a visit to the great saint who is buried there.

The Mosque in Luxor Temple, its beautiful and a lot of people go there on Friday to pray. Usually man and woman we pray in front. I met the Sheikh and is very respectful man with a great voice to recite Quraan. Many people go to visit this Mosque because is located in a very important temple on East Bank, Luxor.

In the 13th Century, Muslims built a mosque over the church in the Great Court. This mosque is still in use today. Scholars have determined that Luxor has been an active religious center for at least 3,000 years.

Sheikh Yusuf Abu el Haggag (or al Haggag) was a saint and holy man who Egyptians in the town of Luxor celebrate every year, on his Moulid (birthday). A descendant of the prophet Muhammad, he was born in Damascus, later moving to Mecca, and finally settling in the northern Egyptian town (as it was then) of Luxor. He later earned the nickname the Father of Pilgrimage. Legend says he did not create the mosque, but saved it from destruction when officials threatened to do just that. Egyptians, on el Haggags Moulid, dress up in colourful clothes and party and attend festive for three days! One could watch horse races, play or watch music, or go for boat rides on these special days. el Haggag has descendants who still live in Luxor, though some have left for other places.
