A must
Obelisk built by Ramses II at the entrance to the Temple of Luxor, 24 meters high and weighing more than 250 tons. It has hieroglyphic inscriptions on all its sides. Initially there were 2 obelisks, one on each side, but today, one of them stands on the Place de la Concorde in Paris, and it was a gift from Mohamed Ali in 1836.
Personally, I was particularly interested in the story around the second, missing obelisk. Quarry and most of the craftsmanship, the carving took place in Aswan, or the quarry there. There is one obelisk in Luxor, the other was given to the French by the Egyptians as a protocol gift and delivered to France (where it stands). In return, the French gave the Egyptians a watch, which was (at least according to legend) broken.
Luxor Temple is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Egypt. It is a pity that only one of the original two large obelisks remained. The second was said to have taken home as a trophy, and now it is in one of the European capitals. But it would certainly be better where it was built and where it belongs. The obelisk is surrounded by hieroglyphic inscriptions from each side. It is about 22 meters tall and weighs over 250 tons.
Too beautiful
