Rumaila Square…Rumaila Square The Citadel or Salah al-Din witnessed some strife during the days of Sultan Al-Ashraf Shaaban (764-778 AH), and in the sultanate of his son Aladdin Ali (778-783 AH), including the strife that occurred in the month of Safar in the year 782 AH between Atabaki Barquq at the time and Prince Baraka Amir board,And when the Barakah team prevailed, Barquq sent judges and sheikhs to Barakah, and they sought peace between them and called for safety. The princes met in the field on the 19th of Safar, and peace was settled and they played the ball together. At the beginning of Rajab in the year 785 AH, a conspiracy was plotted against Sultan Barquq (784 - 801 AH), and the scene of the conspiracy was Rumaila Square if he went down on Saturday to play ball and puck, but the conspiracy failed and some of its leaders were arrested from the princes and some of them were executed. On Sunday, Safar 5, 791 AH, the Sultan gathered the princes. The Khasakiyeh were in the square under the castle, and they drank al-Qamuz (which is an intoxicating drink made of horse milk). He decided to drink it with them on Sundays and Wednesdays to sweeten their minds and gain their satisfaction, knowing that Prince Yalbougha al-Nasiri, the deputy of Aleppo, had gone out against him. He also repeated the same thing on the 19th of Safar, and set up tents in the square under the fortress, and the princes and other Mamluks swore to him and sealed that with a great feast, for fear of the prince yelling.Since the Sultan Hassan School was the scene of military actions, Sultan Barquq issued a decree on Monday, 8 Safar 793 AH, to demolish the stairs of the school and block its door, and to open a door for it from one of the windows overlooking the Rumaila, opposite the door of the chain. And in the second spring of the year 798 AH, they won in Cairo with buried money. It was said that it was 700,000 dirhams for the Circus of Hebron. It was written on it that it was charity, and in it he cursed those who change that, so the poor gathered in the square in two days and became crowded, and about eighty souls died of them and a lot was different for them.In Safar 800 AH, the field witnessed strife and battles, in which some of the Mamluks were wounded, when the Emir went out with any head of the great Nubian spell against Sultan Barquq. The Rumaila Square was filled with them, ready for fear that Ali might have any helpers and partners. The Atabaki Prince Itmish al-Bajasi claimed a great sedition in the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the year 802 AH, and battles took place in Rumaila.

Salah El-Din Square is located between the Citadel of the Mountain, and the mosques of Sultan Hassan, Al-Rifai and Mahmoudia, and in the middle is a small garden and the tomb of Mustafa Kamel. It was known by several names, including Qara Maidan (Black Square) and Souk al-Asr. It had the field station and the bearing platform. The brightest days were the days of King Al-Nasir Muhammad bin Qalawun and Sultan Al-Ghouri. The following streets branch from it: Imam Al-Shafi’i Street, Al-Qadam Street, which leads to the tombs of Al-Sayyida Nafisa, and Al-Sayyida Aisha Street. Darb Al Hosr Street,Sheikhoun Street, along with Al-Saliba Street, Qara Qoul Al-Manshiya Street, which leads to Al-Sioufia Street, and along with it is Al-Rakbiah Street, and Al-Qalaa Street (formerly Muhammad Ali) and leads to Ahmed Maher Square, then to Al-Ataba Al-Khadra Square, and Souk El-Salalah Street ending in Al-Tabbaneh Street. And Al-Mahajar Street, which extends to Bab Al-Wazir Street, then Al-Tabbaneh Street, and then Al-Darb Al-Ahmar. Next to the castle (north of it), Bab Al-Wadaa Street leads to Bab Al-Wazirs cemeteryThe photo is a compilation of several archaeological sites, including the Qani Bay Al-Ramah School, Mahmoud Pasha Mosque, and Muhammad Ali Pasha Mosque - Photo by A.
