The Museum of the “Egyptian Geographical Society” was established by Khedive Ismail in 1875, with the aim of increasing interest in the geographical area and encouraging exploration of the various regions in Egypt in Africa in general at the time. The museum includes a variety of maps, publications, and artifacts, most of which date back to the 18th and early 2000s. 20 It is rare to find them anywhere in the world. The museum consists of several halls that start with the hall of Egyptian hobbies and traditions, and include everything related to Egyptian customs such as smoking tools, toys and clothes, jewelry, and amulets, while the second hall is a corridor in which a group of modern publications are displayed, statues in traditional luxury fashion from different regions in Egypt. While the third hall is considered one of the most charming places in the museum, it contains pieces belonging to the associations missions and the door of the hall is decorated with elephant ivory, and stuffed animals include hunting equipment from shields and spears from tribes all over Africa, and also includes the Suez Canal Hall, and was gifted to the association from the Suez Canal Company , And has maps and machines for channel action points. The upper floor includes the library and also includes a variety of encyclopedias, statistics, and censuses of the population from the twentieth century in Egypt and other countries. There are also nature photographic maps of the deserts of Egypt suspended, and a number of ancient maps. From wiki

One of those odd little pieces of history that still exist in central Cairo. Getting in requires going through some tight security because it is beside other political buildings, but inside is the remains of colonial ethnography. This is like a small version of the Agricultural Museum in Doqqi. Worth visiting if you are nearby and bored.

Khedive Ismail was interested in the geographical research that was taking place in Africa, especially in the areas that were revealed from the source of the Nile. He founded the La Géographie La Société Khedivial de Géographie on 19 May 1875, , And return to it who wants to search and investigate [2] and assigned its presidency to the botanist and explorer German Georg August Schweinfurt. At its first time, the Society received research from the explorers who toured the jungles of Africa, such as Stanley, Burton, Baker, Jesse, Mason, Biaja, Rolls and Burdy, and published them in a magazine published annually by the Society. The Egyptian Armys Chief of Staff, Muammar Mukhtar Bey, Admiral Muhammad Siddiq Bey and Mahmoud Al-Falaki Pasha participated in the geo-exploration and sent their findings to the Assembly. [2]Its name changed after the proclamation of the Republic in 1953 to become the Egyptian Geographical Association.

The museum is 4 main halls, which are left from the Egyptian Hobby and Traditions Hall. The second hall contains statues wearing luxury clothes. All regions of Egypt sold from Nubia to Upper Delta to oases to Sinai, all the clothes in one lane. The next room was frankly, the most amazing thing was the one where the pieces were for the missions of the association when they were looking for missions and returning with the pieces. The fourth and final hall The Suez Canal hall The hall is blue The color of the water is almost the only hall that you will need someone with you to explain to you because it has no explanation enough and lost it in itLooking forward to the next floor, the library remained open to my friend by remembering it alone (and she has an annual subscription for students). Egyptian Geographical SocietyIt was established by Khedive Ismail on May 19, 1875 CE and commissioned by the traveler George Schweinforth to organize it and it is considered the ninth geographical association in the world and the first association outside Europe and the AmericasThe first site when it was established was a hall in the house of Muhammad Bey Al-Daftardar, the husband of Princess Zainab Hanim, the daughter of Muhammad Ali Pasha, then moved to a new headquarters in which the old mixed court was replaced and moved for the third time to a headquarters located at the corner of the meeting point of Qasr al-Aini Street and Majlis al-Shaab Street and finally it moved The association for the fourth time in the year 1925 AD to its current building during the reign of King Fuad. The current building was established during the reign of Khedive Ismail and then occupied by the Agency of the Government of Sudan in the first two decades of the twentieth century, and a lobby was prepared in the form of a lecture hall and its ceiling was carried on 12 iron columns made in Paris and on each column there is the flag of the Kingdom of Egypt at the time 3 stars and a crescentThe association has more than 2000 members, and a large number of elites, princes, scholars, politicians and travelers such as Saad Zaghloul, Ahmed Lotfi al-Sayed, Abdel Khaleq Tharwat, Muhammad Talaat Harb and Nubar Pasha have rotated its membershipThe nucleus of the association’s library was 2,500 books donated by Khedive Ismail, and a number of prominent people gifted their libraries, such as Muhammad Ali Tawfiq, Haydar Fadil Pasha and Mahud Pasha al-Falaki, and today the library contains more than 40,000 books, as well as a rare number of Description of Egypt and 12,500 maps, the most important of which is the world map. Al-Idrisi, which was drawn in 1154 AD 549 AH and is titled “welt kart des ldrisi” in German, and also contains 500 atlas.I advise everyone to visit the place, as it is very impressive at 109 Kasr Al-Aini Street next to Parliament every day from morning until 2:00 except Thursday and Friday.Prepared and photographed by: Youssof Youssof Osama
